Rosemary Clooney started life amid the poverty of small-town Maysville on May 23, 1928. She had a natural gift for song, and began singing as a child.  She began to perform with her sister Betty at political rallies on behalf of their grandfather, the town’s mayor. In 1941, they made their professional debut on a radio station in Cincinnati, and four years later joined the big band led by Tony Pastor. By the time Rosemary signed with Columbia as a solo in 1949, she was already a seasoned vocalist and displayed an intelligent interpretative way which was rare at the time. This, coupled with superb timing, skillful phrasing and, in the words of critics Ron Wynn and Bill Dahl, the “dramatic quality evident among all great singers” made her stand out among the big band singers of the time.

Rosemary saw her mission in life is singing. She said, "I just would like to keep singing. As soon as I'm not singing well, I hope that I know it, so that I can get off the stage and leave what I have done. I hope I'll know, and if I don't, I hope somebody tells me." Trying to pinpoint what made Rosemary Clooney so unique is almost an impossible task. In many ways—along with such favorites of the pop vocal scene as Doris Day, Frankie Laine, Tony Bennett and Jonny Mathis—she defined the 1950s in all its innocence, its enthusiasms, its profligacy. But her importance goes way beyond such a simple definition; when all has been said about her, one fact remains that may explain her appeal and incredible popularity—she was above all a true original.

This is a wonderful collection of songs, and Rosemary tells the stories in full-blown Technicolor. Now, with the remarkable resolution of this record, you'll hear the kaleidoscopic colors of the big band like never before, and you'll swear that Rosemary is right there in the room, singing just for you.
